The Judicial Court met for its second time this semester on Tuesday, Feb. 4., as two new members filled some of the vacant seats in Judicial Court.
Michael Melindo, Nursing major, was announced as a new Court Justice and Regina Jayster, Political science major, was made Chief Justice Pro-tempore.
Melindo said, “I feel like it’s a good opportunity for me to give back to the school for all the great classes, instructions and activities I had here.”
Melindo always had an interest in becoming involved with the school, either being a senator or a Court Justice.
Jayster, like many other new members in student government, expressed enthusiasm for her new role at Cerritos College.
“I want to be her support system, so that she knows that she has numerous people on court to support her in the task of being Chief Justice. So as long as we all are supporting each other, that is all I am trying to accomplish.”
Chief Justice Pro-tempore is a backup to the Chief Justice for any meeting or court activities for any reason the Chief Justice has.
An event that was introduced was the “Making Waves”, introduced by Amna Jara, Interim Dean of Student Services. “Making Waves” is an initiative that Cerritos College is trying to adopt as a campus theme,
A speaker is coming from Seattle Central Community College on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Burnight Center.
Aldo Lopez, Student delegate for Cerritos College, explained why the campus is doing this, “The point of the community to have a campus theme is to try to integrate some kind of togetherness within the campus. Trying to bring a theme that both represents the community and the views of the campus.”
Jara mention that many committees came up with many themes for the campus community to vote on.
Judicial Court meets every Tuesday at 11 a.m. in rooms BK111 and BK112.
