Everyone looks forward to the weekend after having a tough week in school with homework, studying and tests. Most people can’t wait to have a glass of wine, a shot or a cold beer.
It would be cool if you could just enjoy a drink, but that is not the case. Binge drinking has been a problem amongst college students and they don’t know it.
Don’t get it wrong, having a few drinks, enjoying a weekend with friends and taking a breather from school could be fun and relaxing. But do you control your limit?
When you see the word or hear “binge” drinking right away you may assume that it’s only men, but that is not true.
Binge drinking is more dangerous then having an alcohol addiction for both men and women.
According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), women tend to reach a higher blood alcohol level than men at the same consumption level.
The effects in women could be faster and last longer than men, which can be more vulnerable to their health.
Sometimes binge drinking can cause some women to have unprotected sex with one or multiple partners, but that goes for men as well.
Men have higher rates of alcohol related deaths and hospitalizations than women.
When it comes down to it, college students need to be more careful in the way they drink.
Irresponsible behavior while intoxicated could cause plenty of consequences, such as drinking and driving, rape, unplanned pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and even death.
Obviously one of the things you do not want to do is drink and drive. According to Mother’s Against Drunk Drivers (MADD).
The rate of drunk driving is highest among 21-25 year olds, which is 23.4 percent of the population. Now that is high.
These are some of the reasons why you shouldn’t binge drink. It is not worth it at all.
If you also think about it, college students struggle to pay for books, which is only a few hundred dollars.
Imagine getting a D.U.I.? You will be paying thousands of dollars, jail time and driving privileges taken away; in other words a big hassle and time consuming.
There is too much to lose when binge drinking, so either drink responsibly or find other ways to relax and enjoy time with friends.
Don’t be another statistic or victim.
