The future of the semester continues to be discussed as the ASCC convened in BK-111 on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
Some topics were touched upon during this meeting, including an update on the canceling of the Fall Awards Banquet, and also holding a holiday-centered event; which in this case, would be Halloween-themed for the month of October.
“I don’t think we should cancel it,” Maria Gonzalez, assistant commissioner of financial aid, said about the Fall Banquet. “Personally, this is my first time being on the Cabinet, so I want to be a part of it because I’ve never been to it.
“So, to have to wait (until) spring kind of brings my hopes down a little bit.”
Next week the ASCC will meet again to vote on whether or not it will be keeping the Fall Awards this year, or remove it and allocate the funds toward the Spring Awards next semester.
Another item that arose during the meeting was that new commissioners weren’t as up to date, as they were inquiring quite a few times throughout the meeting. As a result, some topics were moved to another meeting to be discussed.
In regards to the lighter side of discussion during the meeting, the ASCC discussed having a one-month event for October, which would be centered around having people coming together in a recreational fashion with different festivities.
Commissioners talked about doing things like volunteer work, visiting a children’s hospital dressed up in costumes, having a pep-rally and Zombie Fest.
The ASCC held a vote and a majority voted to hold the Zombie Fest.
The ASCC will be meeting again next week Monday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. in BK-111.
