The El Camino-Compton Tartars were not able to keep up with the Cerritos Falcons as they were shut out at 9-0.
Centerback Makayla Mendoza said, “I think we did a really great job finishing since the score was obviously 9-0. It was nice to kind of work out some kinks in the middle and the back since we changed our lineup, so I think we did well.”
Carolina Ornelas, forward, scored the first goal of the game within the fourth minute, followed by forward and midfielder Nayeli Requejo, who finished with four goals, in the 13th minute.
Outside defender Gabi Lamb said, “I thought we did really well, but we were just kind of sloppy. We kind of played down to (El Camino-Compton’s) level, but all in all, we got the win and that’s all that matters.”
Still, that sloppiness did not stop the Falcons from scoring four more goals during the second half.
With a comfortable lead of 5-0 in the first half, the Falcons continued their aggressive play, receiving two of three goals from forward Ashley Anaya-Webb, one from midfielder Celinna Montano and Requejo’s fourth and final goal of the game.
Goalkeeper Adrianna Salazar said, “I’m not going to say it was easy, but I think we’re getting ready for Friday, which is our real big match-up against Mt. San Antonio, so it was good to put away the team early, it was good practice.”
The Falcons’ record is now 8-1. They will play away at Mt. San Antonio College (7-2) on Friday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m.
