Update: Jan. 13 2:20 p.m., Dr. Lucinda Aborn, dean of the disabled students program and services, responded to our interview. 

Students are left without the use of the elevator in the Social Science building Tuesday Jan. 13.

The DSPS found out it was broken on Monday morning. They are also in regular communication with the Facilities department.

Facilities department is currently in the process of repairing the elevator. It will be down for the rest of the day.

The elevator located in the western part of the building was found inoperable today.

This comes at a time where students are getting back from winter break.

The people that will be affected are the disabled students because some of the students that is the only access they have to their classes.

Aborn said, “it’s very unfortunate that the facility is not accessible to all students and faculty that may use the elevators.”

66 year-old Ellen Sundin, English major, was excited to come back to school but was disappointed when she saw the elevator.

She said that this is a big problem for students since its the first week of school. Sundin mentioned that a lot students could get dropped because some professors usually drop students in the first day.

What is not known is exactly when the elevator broke down, why it broke down, and when it will start working again.

However, disabled students will be able to get a note from DSPS so they can show professors why they couldn’t get to class.
