The Falcons lose their third-straight game against The Beavers with a score of 70-45, on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at Los Angeles Trade-Tech.
Overwhelmed with a third-straight loss, the Falcons hope to win on Friday, Jan.30 at 7 p.m. against the Pasadena Lancers at Falcon Gymnasium.
During the first half of the game the Falcons were doing great keeping up with the score by two to three points.
But Trade-Tech surprised Cerritos with plenty of aggression and great defense.
Although the Beavers were using all of the shot clock time they seemed more motivated and kept the ball on their side of the court for the last 12 minutes of the first half.
The Falcons seemed a little discombobulated during the last 12 minutes, giving away the ball, making bad passes, not stabilizing their throws and giving up too many rebounds.
The Falcons finished the first half with the score of 30-24.
The second half of the game was a huge flop for Cerritos, losing so much momentum and focus.
They become sloppy and only acquired the ball by fouls and miscommunicated passes by Trade-Tech.
12 minutes left in the game and the score was 50-32.
Cerritos Head Coach Karen Welliver made many player adjustments in the last eight minutes of that game, but nothing seemed to break the Beavers’ focus.
Making them more aggressive and pumping up their ego even more, Ashley Flores, Cerritos forward, tried to motivate her teammates by yelling, “Lets go ladies! Work! We gotta work!”
With only three minutes left in the game, Cassidy Carrillo, Cerritos guard, exchanged words with a Trade-Tech player that almost became a brawl.
A timeout was called by the referees and Welliver was not too happy about the dispute taking Carrillo out of the game.
The almost-brawl ignited the Falcons, creating better defense, but the spark was not even close enough to win the game, and the Falcons lost with a score of 70-45.
Kennedi Cooper, Cerritos guard, disappointed but still pretty positive saying, “We came out strong, but we just fell off. We let them come back. We lost our intensity. They got easy baskets, easy second chance points, and rebounding.”
Cooper hopes that her team can move on past the lost against Trade-Tech and hopefully win the next game.
