On the road again, just as Willie Nelson sung it, is what the Cerritos College men’s swim and dive team did this past weekend.
The long drive to Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo was tiring but the great weather made up for it as many swimmers met their goals by cutting their time from previous weeks.
Individual Medley, Diego Lucas, managed to have some personal time records in the events he competed.
He was ecstatic about his results, “I got new personal times, I didn’t go below 2nd place so I am happy,”
He added, “Thanks to coach (Joe Abing) who really stepped up. It was a great invitational.”
Head coach Joe Abing said, “The weekend was fun, it was a long drive but we had a successful meet. Some really good swims, nice swimming weather. It was a good experience. Good bonding for the team.”
The goal for this meet was to cut time and by the looks of it according to Abing only half of the team accomplished that goal.
But what the team is looking more forward to is the conference meet that they will be hosting this Friday, March 13.
Abing said, “I think this is going to be our fastest meet, because it’s going to be here and I am going to make sure that they’re ready to swim fast.”
Breaststroke swimmer and Captain Marlon Moreno said “My times didn’t change because it was a long drive and it made me really tired, but overall the team did good overall.”
With the Cuesta invitational being a platform for the Falcons to adjust and sharpen their swimming skills to prepare for the next conference meet.
These Falcons seem very optimistic Moreno said, “I am really excited this weekend is going to be good. Hopefully we’ll beat Rio Hondo and Long Beach. And it will be really good.”
Falcons will make their next splash against Long Beach and Rio Hondo at home on March 13 at 12:30PM.
