After an hour of closed session deliberation, the Board of Trustees announced that by unanimous decision, Dr. Jose Fierro of Laramie County Community College, will be the new Cerritos College president, following a contract negotiation.
The announcement was made during the Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, May 6. Fierro was not present during the announcement.
Fierro was the vice president of academic affairs and chief academic office at LCCC. He has also served as an academic dean, associate dean of liberal arts and a professor of biological sciences at Florida Sate College, according to his biography on the Cerritos College website.
Board President Carmen Avalos said, “It was a difficult decision because we had two great candidates. He’s very data driven and very much about positive change in terms of reaching milestones and goals that are set,”
She added that Fierro was excited about the decision.
Trustee John Paul Drayer who along with Trustee Bob Arthur was on a site visit for Fierro said, “We gave our site visit reports and each board member had a chance to speak and then we entertained a motion and it was passed.”
Avalos added that the board hopes to have a contract ready by the next board of trustee meeting on Wednesday, May 20.
