Many of the clubs at Cerritos College gathered on campus to encourage new and returning students to join them. “Club Information Day,” Hulmao Agustin, Chicano studies major said, “is a good thing.” He says that he was been with the MEChA club for a while.
“This will be my fourth year with them,” he adds. “The purpose of this club is to bring social awareness to the students about what is going on around them.” Eddie Rivas, co-president of Puente Club agrees. He said that Puente Club is for minority groups and teaching students about the importance of coming to school.
As for the activities the club has done, he said, “Last year we had the chance to go to Berkeley University and meet other students and talk about the social issues.”
Moreover, he said that the club has at least 20 to 25 students sign up.
Not every club was for students who major in a certain area of study. It doesn’t matter what you study as long as you are interesting in learning more about the particular club.
As Daniel Kim, president of the Economic Club put it, “This club is to assist Business and Economic majors.”
He adds,”This club is for everyone.”
Furthermore, Kim says that there is a scholarship for those who are in the club.
Unfortunately he said, the Economic Club has to start over because all the student officers left and transferred to different universities.
One of the clubs that students have consistently signed up for is the Ambassadors of Christ Club.
This club learns about Jesus Christ and talks about the relationship one has with God.
In addition to learning the relationship and words of Christ, “You learn the reason of Christ, and you learn about the Bible,” Jeff Henderson, sociology major said.
Caroline Diaz, math major, agrees because she says that being involved in a club like the Ambassadors of Christ changed her life.
“I read about the Bible through this club, and I got better as a student.”
