The Faculty Senate discussed the Veteran’s Resource Center, new ideas from the ASCC for peer mentors and transfer center information.
The meeting was held Tuesday, Sept. 1.
The Veteran’s Resource Center is looking to expand ways to benefit veterans attending Cerritos College.
The center is working with the Disabled Student Program Services and Health Services to help veterans get the resources they need.
The VRC also plans to partner with Linda Sanchez to hold a Veteran’s Fair sometime in the near future that will give information on how veterans can get housing allowance and even get paid to go to school.

The faculty also discussed the Associated Students of Cerritos College represented by president of ASCC Eduardo De La Rosa.
According to De La Rosa, there has been discussion of having a peer mentorship program, so students can have a support system in their college careers.
“The peer mentor program is a way for a student to work with their major specific counselor, and their major department chair, to get the information they need about their major and how they can achieve the goals they want,” De La Rosa said.
Faculty senate discussed the transfer push.
It was announced that the transfer center sent out emails to students who are ready to transfer and need to make the necessary steps to move forward and the center received over 80 replies, making it a success.
They followed by announcing the University Mega Fair will be Thursday, Sept. 3.
In addition, there will be a transfer center workshop held on Friday, Sept. 4 from noon to 1:30 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 10 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Scott O’Neil, a math instructor, was elected as faculty senate’s new secretary.
The meeting concluded with the discussion of Cerritos College moving its course management system from Talonnet to Canvas.
The strategic plan is to join about 113 schools in California to move from the current Talonnet website program to the Canvas website.
“The topic will be greatly discussed in a future meeting, most likely around mid-October,” Faculty Senate President Michelle Lewellen said.
The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 8.
