Maribel Rodriguez, who has been going to Cerritos since the fall of 2012 is in “disbelief” that she is finally transferring.
On Thursday, Oct. 15 Rodriguez and other students who are almost done completing their 60 transfer units attended a workshop to help them apply for Universities of California.
Most of the students in attendance have been going to Cerritos College for three to five years working hard for this moment to happen.
Even though it is just the application process, the students were excited to know that they are finally ready and able to transfer.
The workshop was held by Brittany Lundeen, who has been doing this workshop since 2004, when she went to the Transfer Center.
The best thing about this workshop for Lundeen was the fact that students were exploring their options, “I’m glad students are considering other options. Most students think that when they go to a community college they have to go to a Cal State, but that is not their only option.”
Lundeen started the workshop on time and instructed everyone to go to University of California website and create their account.
She explained the application step by step, which is why students attend these workshops.
Rodriguez found the workshop to be extremely helpful because, “you have guidance every step of the way and guidance for different scenarios.”
Different scenarios are the reason why students attend these workshops as well because everybody has a different journey they are on.
Lundeen is aware of that, that is why she explains every step carefully and explains all the different options for the step during the workshop.
Filling out these applications is not easy, and everyone is nervous because they want to get into the university they are trying to go to, so Lundeen explains that everybody should have someone else review their application before they submit their final copy on Nov. 1.
For the students who completed their applications during their workshop Lundeen reminded them that these applications are not to be submitted until Nov. 1.
Many students look forward to these workshops because it gives them hope to finish out their semester strong because they are almost out of Cerritos College.
