Just a man and his will to survive, “Creed” delivers a knock out this week on theaters carrying on the franchise of the Italian Stallion in safe hands.
The movie tells the story of the illegitimate son of Apollo Creed (rival turned friend of Rocky Balboa and played by Carl Weathers) seeking a boxing career and making a name of his own.
Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) refuses to be called the Son of Creed for the fear to fail his father’s legacy and with a desire to build his own.
As he travels to Philadelphia searching for the legendary Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) to train him, Adonis gets to make new friends and rivals along the way.
As the movie goes, Adonis and Rocky build a friendship that turns into family and fight along side for a bigger treat.
The film delivers a great soundtrack introducing hip-hop to the world of Rocky with tracks composed by artists such as Future and Meek Mill.
So don’t expect “Gonna Fly Now,” “Hearts on Fire” or “Eye of The Tiger” on it.
Just like any other spin-off, the audience can expect the origin of the new hero on the rise, a couple easter eggs from the past movies and the famous work-out sequence in a new style that just like the rest of the movies will inspire the viewers to tears.
At first, the movie may have the feeling of a reboot of the first installment, but does not fail to deliver the same chemistry of the story to a new generation of viewers.
As for the all time fans, they can expect this film to be an epic round of the franchise thanks to young director Ryan Cooler (Fruitvale Station) who grew up watching the Rocky franchise with his father.
The film continues to promote the message of keep on fighting in life with the famous quote:
“it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
At the same time, it shows the viewer the importance of building a legacy and the lessons that are pass on from the elder to the youth.
“Creed” is a movie that every fan of the franchise should not miss and a great installment for new fans getting introduced to the inspiring world of Rocky Balboa.
