It is no longer a mystery as to which, if any, NFL team would relocate to sunny Los Angeles, or so we think.
The St. Louis Rams have had their relocation papers approved during the owner’s meeting Tuesday, Jan. 12 in Houston, Texas.
In order to have the relocation approved by the league and its officials Rams’ owner Stan Kroenke must have received 24 of the 32 NFL owners to say ‘yes’ on the move.
This first vote during the meetings tallied a total of 20 ‘yes’ and 12 no’s. However, upon the second go around the vote was more decisive in 30 yes and two for no. Thusly, the Rams were officially granted its wish to return to Los Angeles.
The St. Louis Rams played under the Los Angeles name from 1946-1994 before heading east to Missouri. This is the second time that St. Louis has lost an NFL team as it saw the Cardinals head to Phoenix in 1988.
It is believed that both teams left the St. Louis area because they were not granted their need for a new facility.
The Rams new official home, Inglewood Stadium, will not be finished until around the 2018 NFL season.
Until then the team will play its home game at the historic Coliseum stadium.
When the 2016 NFL season kicks off for the Rams, it will be the first time Los Angeles has hosted an NFL game since December 24, 1994.
Many member of the Cerritos College community feel like this is a big change for Los Angeles.
“It’s going to be huge for sure because they’ve been trying for forever to get a team here,” undeclared major Robert Vasquez said.
The 31-year-old is one of the few who remembers the NFL in Los Angeles as a child and is not too thrilled about the relocation.
“I’m probably going to avoid it. We have enough traffic in LA,” Vasquez said.
“You can bet it’s going to bring a lot more,” he added.
The final three teams that were fighting for the Los Angeles scenery was between the Rams, the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders.
Paralegal Studies major Aaron Hunt said, “I don’t like any of them for that matter, the [Rams] have a lot of fan base out here.”
The Raiders will remain in Oakland for the time being however the Chargers and its owner Dean Spanos will have up to two years to make a decision whether to join the Rams in relocating to Los Angeles.
Hunt added that he thinks the Chargers will make the move because the Raiders mean so much to the city of Oakland.
However, don’t worry Raider fans, there still is a chance the silver and black team will be back in Los Angeles. It is very likely if the Chargers choose not to relocate, the Raiders would be a heavy favorite to pack its bags and head to the “City of Angels.”
