Since the beginning of the 2015 season the Cerritos College softball team has not lost two games in a row.
That was until Tuesday, April 5 against El Camino. The team lost 7-5 to the Warriors.
In the first meeting between the two teams Cerritos crushed El Camino 19-3 in five innings.
In the the second meeting Cerritos also took a victory with not as big of a margin being, 11-8
Third baseman and pitcher Jenny Navarro said, “We’ve been going through a lot of stuff with our own team we’ve been struggling with some players with injuries.
“Now we’re just trying to get back and recover ,now these last two games weren’t the best and we haven’t been performing like we started off and it’s because we’re overcoming something that happened between our team but we all know what we want and we’re fighting for it now.”
Head coach Kodee Murray doesn’t think that their losing steak is about that, “I think when you play a 40 game schedule you go through a period were you’re not playing your best softball and I think that gets you to a place were you’re playing your best softball,
“I think our last two games, in all honestly, we haven’t really been on all cylinders, we went through a little bit of adversity and now were trying to figure a way out of that and a better way to play together.”
He continued, “I think we have a group of players that want to be better and want to finish this season all in, I think we have one of the best groups thats been through Cerritos College in a long time and I believe they are going to do what they say they are going to do and that is come out, play together, and fight together.”
After these two loses Cerritos is now out of the running for first place in their conference.
Navarro expressed, “We set our minds to not look at the outcome anymore and to look to the final result and that is making finals so we’re not aiming for first place anymore since we took ourselves out of it so now all were just focused on is working as a team and overcoming everything together.”
Murray is disappointed with the team being out of conversation for first place, “It’s disappointing of course but, we’re focused on a game at a time and finishing out doing the best job as a team, and if that leaves us at second place in the conference then it leaves us at second, and if that leaves us into playoffs then thats were we want to be at the end of the year.”
The team now look to bounce back against Long Beach City Thursday, April 7.
