Students and staff set up booths for majors provided at Cerritos College on display for the annual Majors Exploration Fair on Sept. 19.
Current and future students were able to visit the tables and learn about the different majors.
Some majors had a display of items or examples of what they do to not only lure people to their table but to also educate.
Veronica Herrera, Cerritos College counselor and her daughter, Ana Herrera, attended the college fair to educate students about the Chicano Studies department, “What were here to do is to let the students and faculty know that we are a new department on campus and encourage them to take classes so they can learn more about the culture.”
Many booths had pamphlets and sign-up sheets.
Most of the major representatives were also offering candy or granola bars for people who came by their booth.
The cosmetology booth was giving free manicures.
In order to participate in the Majors Exploration Fair, a person doesn’t need to want to change their major.
Courtney Wiseman, zoology major, attended the fair.
“I was just looking around. There’s always room for growth in anything else you want to learn. I just wanted to check it out and see what else the school has to offer.”
A main focus of the fair is to help students chose a major by helping them briefly explore all the majors Cerritos has to offer. Students are able to speak with other students in the major or a major representative for any questions.
Halitza Rodriguez, undecided major, stopped by the college fair to get a feel for the campus and its major programs.
“The people at the cosmetology booth were very helpful. They gave me a bunch of information, I’m really thankful for that.” said Rodriguez.
Booths for the financial aid office and the transfer center were ready and available to take any questions from Cerritos students at the Mega Fair.
A nursing student who is soon transferring, Karen Ahumada, got all the information she needed by visiting the transfer booth at the Major Exploration Fair.
“Luckily I stopped by the transfer center to get information on what my next step would be. I got all the information I need. It was really helpful,” said Ahumada.
