The Cerritos College softball team won a close game with the score of 2-1 against a very formidable East Los Angeles College team in a Falcons home game on March 29.
This game was filled with solid fielding and pitching both ways as each team had less then five hits.
The lack of hits was not so much from strikeouts, but from the batters hitting it straight to the in-fielders and out-fielders, it was definitely a fielders game.
East L.A. made two costly errors that lead to the Falcons moving runners into scoring position.
The Falcons had good pitching from freshmen No. 20 Sierra Gerdts she allowed three hits all game.
Head coach Kodee Murray commented about what set the tone for their defensive display, she stated that “Gerdts did an outstanding job pitching, she kept the lead off from getting on base the majority of the time and she pitched with confidence getting us out of jams.”
She also commented on her left fielder who got the majority of the action. She stated that, left fielder No. 9 Emma Wolff makes plays look so easy that would be tough for anybody else and that she is an superior left fielder.
Wolff said, she gave us insight on what goes through her mind while the ball is in the air. She kept it simple by saying her main focus is to “Catch It” and not worry about anything else, she is there to make plays for her pitcher.
No. 27 Briana Lopez had a clutch RBI triple that basically sent in the game winning run in the bottom of the second inning, all of the Falcons runs came in this inning.
The East L.A. College softball team just came off a win against the No. 1 team in So Cal, Mt. San Antonio College, where they beat them 2-0.
Murray said, “it was great hopefully they can build off of this momentum and continue to grind games out, because they had been struggling lately in close games.”
This game was very fast paced as some innings were done with only about 20 pitches.
Lopez was asked if she preferred games like or games where there is a lot of hits and scoring.
She said “ We prefer fast paced games like this, where we can focus soley on one thing and that is helping our pitcher make plays”
The Falcons are now 13-10 overall and 3-2 in league play.
This upcoming month of April the Falcons will play a lot of make up games due to the rainout that rescheduled several matches.
The team will travel to Los Angeles Harbor College on Apr. 9 for an away game that was rescheduled from a March 22 rainout.
Also, the next matchup between Cerritos College softball and ELAC will be on April 20. It will be an away game for the Falcons.
