The Cerritos Men’s Soccer team obtained another victory on home soil 7-0 against Pasadena City College on Oct. 19. The Falcons obtained their 11th win of the season in 14 matches and are now No. 1 in the state and national rankings.
The Falcons played their best game so far this campaign against the Lancers’ defense that could not avoid their worst defeat in the entire season. The Pasadena City College lancers suffered their seventh defeat this season
The goalscorers were Freshman defender No. 3 Ernesto Cueva in the 19th and 48th minutes. Freshman forward No. 26 Bryan Villalobos scored three goals [hat-trick] in the 30th, 42nd and 65th minutes.
Sophomore midfielder No. 21 Bryan Rodriguez scored in the 74th minute and finally Sophomore goalkeeper No. 1 Jordan Aldama scored a penalty kick in the 84th minute.
Freshman forward No. 9 Kevin Diaz had three assists in this match. Defender Cueva, Sophomore midfielder No. 6 Esteban Camacho and Sophomore midfielder No. 10 Erick Gallinar also had one assist each.
Sophomore defender No. 5 Luis Lira was injured and was replaced by Sophomore defender No. 4 Javier Cortez in the starting line-up.
Cerritos dominated the game from beginning to end with 18 shots-on-goal. Pasadena City College on the other hand had only two shots-on-goal throughout the match.
Head coach Benjamin Artiaga felt very proud of the team’s performance during the entire game. The Falcons played with discipline this match, they did not get any yellow cards despite 29 fouls called by the referee.
Pasadena City College forward No. 16 Eduardo Gonzales in the 24th minute and defender No. 3 Christopher Muñoz in the 51st minute were cautioned by the referee.
Coach Artiaga stated, “This was an awesome game we gave the opportunity to players who did not have any minutes on the field. Our goalkeeper [Aldama] is the best ‘keeper in the State of California.”
Forward Villalobos said, “I felt great to score my first hat-trick for Cerritos.” When asked about the team’s performance he stated, “The team played their best game from the substitutes to the starters.”
Defender Cueva stated, “It feels good to score against Mt. SAC and this game as well from the corner kick [first goal].” Cueva also scored against Chaffey College on Oct. 16 with an assist from midfielder Gallinar.
Goalkeeper Aldama said, “I felt good. I was confident taking the penalty kick and that I got another shutout.”
Aldama stated, “Today offense took care of business, I was proud of their performance, the team did great.”
Cerritos Men’s Soccer will play against East Los Angeles College on Tuesday Oct. 23 and will play against Conference rival Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday Oct. 26, both matches will be home games.
