The Cerritos Softball team obtained their eighth defeat against El Camino College by a score of 6-0 on March 5.
In the top of the second inning, the Warriors took a 4-0 lead thanks to their infielder No. 6 Brooklyn Araujo who scored a 2-run homerun into center field, outfielder No. 20 Kassidy Robinson also scored.
The Warriors scored another run to extend their lead 3-0, thanks to a double from outfielder No. 16 Belle Estrada, outfielder No. 23 Sidra Montoya scored.
Infielder and right-hand pitcher No. 10 Diamond Lewis made another double into right field which lead to the fourth run for the Warriors from Estrada.
Trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning, freshman designated player No. 14 Sophia Collazo singled with one out and moved to second base on a single from freshman outfielder No. 45 Haley Davis.
With two outs, sophomore first baseman No. 27 Keira Bolinas blooped a single inside the left field foul line to load the bases. However, sophomore third baseman No. 32 Kayla Hernandez grounded out to end the inning.
In the fifth inning, El Camino scored their fifth run thanks to a single from pitcher and outfielder No. 18 Jocelyn Hernandez, infielder No. 15 Mina Nakawake scored.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Warriors scored their sixth and final run. Lewis singled to shortstop, Montoya ran to third base and Araujo scored.
In addition to their clutch hitting, the Warriors also turned in several outstanding defensive plays to keep the Falcons off the scoreboard.
They turned a double play to end the fourth inning, as well as the sixth inning when Cerritos put the first two runners on base. In that sixth inning, sophomore shortstop Tena Spoolstra led off with a bunt single and stole second base.
Bolinas followed with a single to put runners on first and third. However, Araujo fielded a hard ground ball into the hole by freshman outfielder Soto, who resulted in a double play.
The Falcons had only seven hits in the match. Bolinas had three hits.
Meanwhile freshman outfielder Davis, Spoolstra, Soto and Collazo had one hit each.
The last time the Falcons did not score any runs was on Feb. 7. Cerritos lost to Mount San Antonio College on the road by a score of 5-0.
Head Coach Kodee Murray when asked on the team’s performance said, “Nothing went wrong. We put pressure during the game. We made the hits, however we couldn’t score.”
When questioned on the improvement of the team Murray stated, “We hit the ball well. We didn’t get the runs, that is what we need to improve on.”
The Falcons previous three games: Cerritos 4-3 Ventura College, Cerritos 11-2 Compton College, Cerritos 3-4 East Los Angeles College.
On March 7 the Falcons will travel to Chaffey College to take on the Panthers for a conference matchup at 3 p.m.
Following the conference match, the Falcons will host the College of the Canyons on March 9 at 1 p.m.
