Under the starry night sky, Smashing Pumpkins and former Oasis guitarist/singer Noel Gallagher performed spectacularly leaving fans screaming, “One more song!” by the end of the night.
Along with the two bands, AFI also performed as their opening act at the FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine where fans from different ages, multiple music styles and state regions came together for a fun night as the summer comes to an end.
AFI, which consist of Davey Havok, Adam Carson, Hunter Burgan, and Jade Puget performed their most notable songs from their Decemberunderground album “Miss Murder,” “Snow Cats” and “17 Crimes” from their 2013 Burials album.
AFI rocked their performance that some fans were sad to see their favorite band leave the stage.
As fans wait for the next headliner to perform, which was Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, they have the liberty to walk around, order food from food trucks like SaltNPepper, Belly Bombz, The Big Cheese, Afters Ice Cream, and if fans were in the mood for a Vodka Lemonade or a Modelo there was numerous cocktail and beer stands.
While fans ate and socialized with their friends and family, they also have the option to play at a mini arcade tent which included games from NEO-GEO and of course the famous Ms. Pac Man.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds stood confidently as he and his band began to play “Fort Knox,” “She Taught Me How to Fly” and “This Is the Place.”
As he finished singing “This Is the Place,” he begins to talk to his fans, “I’m only doing this next song just for you guys. The fans!”
Gallagher starts playing “Wonderwall,” fans became thrilled and sang along as they witness one of the most popular songs played right in front of their own eyes.
Gallagher continued to play Oasis songs and ended their performance with a Beatles cover of “All You Need Is Love” but not without ending the night about Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl’s comment on getting Oasis back together.
“I hereby start a petition to break up the Foo Fighters,” Gallagher adds, “Anyone free can f**king sign it!”
Finally Smashing Pumpkins was up next with three quarters of the original lineup with frontman Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin as drummer. Along with Jack Bates (son of Peter Hook from New Order and Joy Division) and longtime Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder.
The stage was set up beautifully with large props and a stunning light show as they start off with “Today,” “Zero,” and “Solara.”
Corgan and Iha wore their iconic outfits from their “Everlasting Gaze” music video from their album Machina/The Machines of God which made fans very ecstatic.
Fans were eager to hear their older songs reminising their good ol’ days and their new songs as they danced and headbanged the night away.
They concluded the night by playing “The Aeroplane Flies High,” bringing Smashing Pumpkins super fans a smile to their face.
The night was a celebration of the past and what the future holds, a great way to end the summer.
