A surprising musical guest, The Strokes, took the stage after presidential candidate Bernie Sanders gave his speech at a rally in Durham, New Hampshire on Feb. 10.
Who knew Strokes’ fans would be experiencing the best setlist since FYF 2014, and the debuts of new songs at a presidential rally?
Although The Strokes have never been ones to side or discuss political issues, they went all out for their first political outing and gave an energy-filled performance to the largest Democratic rally in New Hampshire.
The setlist consisted of 13 songs, two of which are new, as well as the official announcement from front-man Julian Casablancas of the new album entitled “The New Abnormal,” releasing April 10.
Full of energy, Casablancas sang hits like “Hard to Explain” and “Ize of the World” from their early days, to finally performing songs from their fifth studio album, “Comedown Machine” which hasn’t seen the light in the last six years.
“The Adults are Talking” from the new album was also performed at the rally and previously debuted at the Wiltern charity concert in Los Angeles that was held in May 2019, which left fans itching for more.
“The New Abnormal” is technically the sixth studio album since their LP “Future Present Past” in 2016.
The new fan favorite “At the Door,” is soft, catchy, sad and with Casablancas’ vocals singing “I can’t escape it, I’m never gonna make it out of this in time… I’m not that quiet, my thoughts such a mess,” all together, it makes it the perfect sad song that fans didn’t know they needed.
Ending their hour set with their controversial song “New York City Cops,” front-man Casablancas invited attendees up on stage with him, something that he hasn’t done with The Strokes since early 2000’s.
It seems as if The Strokes are in a good place musically and with each other, and fans can expect a proper tour from the in-demand band in the coming months.
Fans in the Los Angeles area can see them at the Forum in Inglewood March 14.
The anticipated announcement of the new album has been long awaited by fans and based on the songs performed, they will not be disappointed.
