Men’s tennis team and assistant coach David Sim are looking well-prepared for a great season, all despite suffering a 7-2 loss Tuesday at home against San Diego Mesa College.
Nathan Eshmade was the only singles winner from Cerritos College defeating Rodrigo Santibanez, 6-2, 6-1.
Sim is new to the team and is impressed with what he sees so far in the season.
“Everyone on the team is well-connected with a lot of team spirit,” Sim said.”Everyone is working hard and putting in 100 percent every day. I’m looking forward to the team improving as not only players but as individuals.”
The team has a record of 2-1.”I was here a couple of months ago, I feel since then the team as improved a lot,” Sim continued.
Maurice Grijalva, a team member that played four years on his high school tennis team, talked about this season and his performance in Tuesday’s match.
“I feel pretty good about the team this year and I am excited for this season,” Grijalva said, “Today i played OK but I can improve on keeping the ball in bounds.”
Eshmade, a new member of the men’s tennis team and the Cerritos College community, earned his previous team’s Most Consistent Player award two seasons in a row and reached the league’s semi-finals in singles.
“My teammates are a great bunch of lads and when I got here they made me feel comfortable,” Eshmade said, “They all have a great passion for the sport.
“I felt my performances were very solid. Still not at the top of my game, but my mental and physical performance helped win the match.”
