Cerritos College should not think of banning Social Media portals while in campus.
Social Medias are helpful and enhances communication to be established among the community that is students, businesses’ owners, families, etc.
Social Medias are a way to market yourself without paying the extra bucks.
Others argue they are a distraction to students, and they are only distractions if the students allow them to be so.
For example if students have a big gap of time in between classes, the students should be able to log into a social media to communicate with family, friends, promote themselves and even network.
They are also helpful to stay in contact with classmates, sometimes it is a little odd to give out your number to random people, adding them on Facebook or Twitter or any other social portals can facilitate communication.
After all they are portals of communications, therefore they should be treated as that, the continuation of students using these means of communication is an advantage.
For majors like arts, music, journalism, communications, TV and radio only to mention a few need this boost Social Medias brings.
Getting your name, work and skills out there is primordial, by blocking Social Medias is like setting up more hurtles within these careers.
Some students can’t afford Internet at home, so they come to school with the intention to promote themselves here at school.
Communicating and learning how to associate with people without actually being there, it’s a good set of skills any student in campus needs to learn, especially with nowadays society that revolves around it.
Finding information and/ or issues that as students could of never found out on their own is something that often happens, it helps students stay aware of things that are important.
In retrospect to this issue, social media is an advance in society. The way students chose to use it; it’s at their own risk.
Using social media portals in an appropriate matter should not have to be the cause of their banning, yes this is college we are all adults act as if!
Take advantage of the resources available to succeed, don’t abuse them and ruin it for everyone else.
