With too much chili or spices being somewhat known to cause heartburn, stomachaches, and in severe cases, ulcers, it is a good idea to have Flamin’ Hot Cheetos banned from our campus.
There has already been a case of a fatality due to excess consumption of Hot Cheetos and yet thousands of people a day eat them without regard for their health.
According to the livestrong.com website, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos have 170 calories per serving, with 100 calories coming from fat.
The snacks have 11 grams of total fat, which include 1.5 grams of saturated fat, but they do not contain any trans fat or cholesterol.
Regularly consuming high-calorie and high-fat foods, including this particular snack, may increase your risk of obesity and heart problems. So there we have a major good reason why students should refrain from eating them in the first place.
There are several other snacks available on campus which have fewer calories, and while they are still junk food, they contain less of the bad type of fat which is saturated fat.
For example, Sun Chips have 140 calories and only 54 calories from fat. That is a huge difference between having 100 calories from fat in a bag of Hot Cheetos.
Banning this snack from our campus can only benefit the students because there wouldn’t be any temptation to eat chips which are higher in fat and harmful to your health than say, Special K chips or regular Cheetos.
Removing them from our campus could be a small step toward decreasing the obesity rate if we look at the bigger picture.
We may be small, but our actions can be big as long as they are done correctly and adequately.
It is the sole person’s responsibility to watch what he or she eats, but with a little help from the shelves, we could make it easier on them.
Out of all the chips and junk food students could choose from, if Hot Cheetos were eliminated, there is one less possible threat to that student’s health.
