Now the L.A. Kings took game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Edmonton Oilers and boy, was that a dramatic game.
Trevor Moore started us off with the goal to make it 1-0. And he had a multi-point in game night to got three points, one goal, two assists.
And that was the best game ever, ever seen Moore play. That was pretty crazy. And then Alex Lafallo scored to make it 2-0.
The first period it was all Kings. It was definitely all Kings. Jonathan Quick was playing incredibly well.
The saves he was making was insane. Until finally Connor McDavid sliced through four Kings to score with less than a minute to go in the first period.
I as much as I hate hearing the Oilers horn go off, that was a sick goal, that was just a typical Connor McDavid thing to do that go was unbelievable.
But it was overshadowed by the Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick making incredible saves until in the second period that the Oilers tied the game by Yamamoto, I almost called him Shin Yamamoto because in Cal State Long Beach, they had an ice hockey player named Shin Yamamoto.
I don’t remember this guy’s first name was but was crazy and then in transition, the Kings come back and score to get the lead by Brendan Lemieux.
Each one of these goals, I was fired up. I was losing my mind. And I probably grew few gray hairs after this game because it was so stressful and there is so much pressure on the Kings as well of what to expect.
We were expecting the Kings to have a better playoff series this year? Of course. Yes, because in 2018, the L.A. Kings only scored three goals in those four games against the Golden Knights.
Now the Golden Knights, because we think we’re expecting a sweep but it was not an easy sweep.
It took a lot to get through Jonathan Quick and the Kings defense and the Knights did it four games to none but this time the Kings.
I think it’s because I believe in that time in 2018, I remember late in the season before the playoffs started, the Kings weren’t playing that good.
They’re actually using a few games and they actually lost their their final home game to the Dallas Stars 4-2.
I had to yawn again and I believe Jamie Benn had a hat trick in that one. But yeah and that time it was different because the Kings, they, they sorry had a brain fart there.
The Kings, they’re just losing games are already doing pretty bad towards the end, which is not good going into the into the playoffs.
And they obviously show that they couldn’t hold up but the Vegas Golden Knights, they were a scary team, at least at the time they’re scary team.
They pretty much peaked in their first year. Who knows how long it’ll be until they get back to the finals or get back to playing the way they did?
But this time around, the Kings, they were playing incredibly well towards the end and they were winning games on the road, which is very important, which is what they needed and what they did last night.
They beat the Oilers in Edmonton. In the Oilers case, the pressure on them was to bring a Stanley Cup back to Canada and for the Oilers to redeem themselves for the failed years they’ve had.
But I’ve heard a lot of people say, of course, people are going to be cheering against the Kings because they want Connor McDavid to go all the way.
Now let me get back to this in a moment. But in the second period, Draisaitl ties the game because of a broken stick.
That was very odd. That’s going in the weird NHL for sure and then in the third period, the best acquisition in the season came from the one and only Philip Danault,
I couldn’t believe it. That was incredible and I was just jumping up and down in excitement. Just the rush of adrenaline I had when the puck went in, when he scored that goal I’m like, we’re going to win this game.
We’re we’re going to win this. And there we go we took game one, but, job’s not done yet, three more to go.
So like I said, the pressure on the Oilers is just bringing another cup and going to McDavid.
Of course, people want to see more McDavid in the playoffs, see how well he would do at the deep.
But of course, in my case, because I’m a Kings fan, I mean, it would be pretty nice to see McDavid and Draisaitl go all the way, see how much they can do, how much damage they can do in the playoffs.
But I can’t let happen or at least the Kings can’t let that happen because why would you want to go against your team just to see someone else win, especially when your rivals do?
The Kings have actually now played the Oilers seven times in the playoffs.
Of course, the most memorable one was when the L.A. Kings were down 5-0 in third period against the Gretzky lead Oilers and the Kings came back and beat them 6-5 in overtime and eliminated Oilers.
So, we already have a rivalry with these guys. We already had some history between them.
(And) then in the 90s, the Kings took Wayne Gretzky, and now he’s on the other end.
I wonder how that felt for him. But the Kings, I was going to say that they’re almost there, but I guess I’m just feeling a little too laid back because they won one playoff game, ok.
We won one playoff game. That’s not going too cocky here now, you know. So let’s hope the boys can do it again tomorrow night in Edmonton.
(and) Like I said too the Kings are finally scoring goals because last time they only scored three goals.
I’m just repeating what I say pretty much, but I am very proud of the Kings, for the team and how they played last night.
They just have to stay in the box, they just have to stay out of the box. The Kings took a bunch of penalties last night and the Oilers scored on two of the penalties.
And that’s been the King, one of the Kings’ struggles all year long. It’s just the penalty kill the penalty is not too bad, but they take too many of them.
As we saw in the Colorado Avalanche when when they scored nine goals on us. Why? Because we took so many penalties.
It’s easy as that. Stay out of the ball, L.A., stay out of the box and you’re going to make it a whole lot easier for yourselves.
I just went on a rant there. I never really go on rants. I think they’re very rare.
Well, the Kings will be back at it tomorrow night at Rogers Place, 7:00 p.m., so I’m definitely going to watch that one.
Let’s hope the Kings can go up 2-0 so we can now not lay back a little bit, but feel a little more confident or feel a little better, a more sense of hope that the Kings will make it through.
