On Dec. 21, the Students Veterans Club will be joining up with SHIELDS for Families Inc., a private non-profit organization, to take 45 children ranging between the ages of 6-12 years of age, to the movie theater.
SHIELDS is an advocate for child abuse and families affected by substance abuse.
SHIELDS is also a program that dedicates itself to promoting family reunification, self-sufficiency, and economical independence.
On the trip to the theater, members from the Student Veterans Club, members of SHIELD and the children will be watching “A Christmas Carol” starring Jim Carey, who lends his voice to the film.
“I am very happy that I belong to a club that believes in giving back to the community, especially to less advantages children,” said Elizabeth Martinez, treasurer of the Student Veterans Club.
The Student Veterans Club will also provide all of the popcorn and refreshments for the children.
President of the Student Veterans Club Felipe Grimaldo, fine arts major, said the reason why they are taking the children to the movie is, “Because it’s one of our ways to give back to our community and promote our club’s Christmas spirit.”
