I want to start by saying this is not a diss to Kendrick Lamar, I love his music, and he has a great year winning the beef with Drake and J Cole. I just believe there is a time and place for who should be performing the Super Bowl halftime show, and I don’t think that should be him.
We all know Kendrick Lamar is Los Angeles born and raised. You can hear it all over his music, for example song, “The Recipe ft Dr.Dre” which talks about his love for his hometown Compton, California.
It’s funny though because in his most recent song, he calls out Drake for being a colonizer but according to Rolling Stone ” Rap fans are now left to consider what’s worse between Drake co-opting music scenes for his pockets or Lamar playing into the PR apparatus for a country (and corporation) that subsists on racial inequality and exploits countries for resources all over the world.”.
Jay-Z missed out on a huge opportunity by choosing Kendrick Lamar over the likes of artists born and raised in Louisiana. A couple of rappers and singers he could have gone with over Kendrick Lamar for this year’s Super Bowl half-time show.
Since the Super Bowl is for all types of fans if you want to go a different direction of just rappers look at country singer Tim McGraw who has many famous songs one of them being about his time in Louisiana called Louisiana.
He could also bring out Taylor Swift, as they have a famous song together which would be cool since last year her boyfriend, Travis Kelce won the Super Bowl and if he does it again that would be amazing for the power couple.
If country music doesn’t feel cool enough for the amazing city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Just look at the city’s young and upcoming rapper in NBA YoungBoy.
Who at only the age of 24 years old has already gotten 100 gold and platinum singles.
Yes, indeed, his songs might not be child-friendly that the NFL wants but he already has a big influence in football with his song “Right Foot Creep” being the inspiration for the famous griddy dance celebration.
Honestly, though there’s only one right choice and that would be the great Lil Wayne who is Louisiana born and raised. If we had him performing the whole performance would be a huge party that would never end. He has so many party anthems that would fit amazing, for example, “Lollipop” and “Love Me”.
For those who say he is “too old school”, just look at the remix of “What’s Poppin”. Where Lil Wayne had amazing verse on it.
Jay-Z has done an amazing job choosing the artist for the Super Bowl half-time show, but I believe he missed out on not choosing Lil Wayne for this season in New Orleans, Louisiana.

I feel this article was not properly researched. Just as you mentioned Tim McGraw bring out Taylor Swift (who has no connection other than her public relationship to a football player). Kendrick can bring out Lil Wayne as they do have a song together ( Mona Lisa) which if done right can provide a small set for Lil Wayne to celebrate New Orleans. This can be done while acknowledging that the artist who had the best and most well known year performs. There has never been a debate around who should perform at Superbowl just because of its location. Lil Wayne is a staple and it would make a great moment but beyond it being a moment it just doesn’t make sense.

I Hate when writer’s try to make a name for themselves by trying to create a problem where there isn’t one!!!!😡 There is absolutely nothing wrong with Kendrick Lamar doing the Superbowl halftime show, every show that has been done has had artists from other states, it’s about who’s on top, who’s hot, and who’s the best choice at that time, and for that year, please do your research before writing stupid articles like this, it is just trying to start fighting where there is no need, K Dot will do the show, it will be great, and everyone will have a great time, I do think Jay Z should include Lil Wayne, but it’s his decision, there are a lot of artists everyone would Love to see, but it’s not up to us, stop using the Culture to try to make a name for yourself!!!!!

I saw this article on Google’s main page and I’m completely disgusted, please do your research and have a clear understanding of what you are writing. Sadly, journalism has come to this; sorry not sorry you can put the pen down or close the laptop and find a new hobby!
Thanks

Also He won a battle not the War or the entire beef. I’m not interested in these performances. Will him or Drake live up to the hype of their next projects?
Tr35ive • Oct 10, 2024 at 3:10 am
Blood…Young Boy is in prison and is from Baton Rouge. I don’t like Kendrick but he got the spot.
Tiffany • Oct 9, 2024 at 11:24 pm
Started out by saying this isn’t hate to Kendrick then proceed to name other artist, even a damn country singer, who would be more “qualified” in your eyes to do the super bowl in Louisiana. Also tried to spin a bullshit narrative about playing into PR stunts. Lil Wayne is not performing. Get over it!
Dragon • Oct 9, 2024 at 9:47 pm
Dude… kick rocks… you just talking out of your brown parts in the back… you fell into street talk and don’t know what you are talking about… you dont have to be from the place where the super bowl is help to do the halftime show… stay out of the streets… not for you…
Kaygee • Oct 9, 2024 at 9:42 pm
The one thing that’s killing me about all this controversy with this super bowl thing is that is it the ones that criticize only thinking about who should perform or who is performing, meaning this lie to yourself if you want to, but if it was Taylor Swift or some type of artist like her. I don’t think it would be a topic. R any type of controversy at all, so all the people that’s criticized in Kendrick Lamar and steady, saying that they’re not like I said, if it was someone else, they wouldn’t even talk about the Super Bowl, let alone even watch the halftime show. So with that being said, I really don’t like using the word hater, the charge is some unbelievers
Jd • Oct 9, 2024 at 9:34 pm
Born and raised in NO, you’re 100% correct. They’ve never gone with the popular artist at the time. This is a weird choice all around not a performer from the city no a performer from the south. Trash pick.
Tracey • Oct 9, 2024 at 9:16 pm
They are not like us!….THIS IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHAT … This means you never walked in a blk mans shoes .. they both know is cool with it .. look at who’s not LOL
Tiwanna Smith • Oct 9, 2024 at 8:28 pm
I disagree you don’t have to be born in a certain state to entertain at the superbowl. You don’t make sense 😒
No he shouldn't have • Oct 9, 2024 at 7:48 pm
the meat shlobbing is real in this article
Teaching Beyond • Oct 9, 2024 at 5:28 pm
It is whatbit is. Kendrick is professional and will do a great show. I live lil Wayne just wasn’t his time.
Dan Obi-Imegwu • Oct 9, 2024 at 5:00 pm
Facts we need the culture and hell yeah we biase
Monty • Oct 9, 2024 at 4:01 pm
Yeah you’re biased and not using just basic logic. This isn’t about Louisiana and I’m born and raised… go look at the stats of every Super Bowl halftime and ask yourself how many performers are from that city, Kendrick Lamar appeals to a global audience and not just the few hundred who actually cares that Wayne WANTED to perform at a halftime. And on top of that, he’s known for ditching rehearsals or just flat out cancelling tours (not to mention drug usage). It’s about business. 2 things that don’t mix is money and feelings.
Caprice • Oct 9, 2024 at 6:47 pm
And in the Bible it quotes that each generation will grow weaker and wiser this is one weak ass article but nothing was wise about it neither so I’m confused
Isaac Polen • Oct 10, 2024 at 11:17 am
I think people are just saying stuff because j,z you feel you could say something before j. Had the job you are others never said anything
Me not you • Oct 9, 2024 at 3:47 pm
Do more research on the artist you mentioned in the article. Simple research sheeeesh smh
Corey Hughes • Oct 9, 2024 at 3:39 pm
Perfect pick!!!! What up Kendrick congratulations this Corey I’m Doug Owosso guy
Keila Cook • Oct 9, 2024 at 1:55 pm
This native New Orleanian disagrees with you 100%. The Mr. Morale concert in New Orleans was on fiyuh, Dot had the arena
rocking! Also, please do your research. NBA is NOT from New Orleans and is not a good candidate for the Superbowl for many reasons. Also, Wayne alone is responsible for him not being chosen, professionalism matters. As for the racism, I think you missed the point of Not Like Us and all related bars.
James • Oct 10, 2024 at 6:50 am
Yeah NBA ain’t from New Orleans, write about things you know about mane 🤣
Carroll Coty • Oct 9, 2024 at 1:50 pm
Kendrick Lamar was picked because he had the #1 song of this year or this decade. Please stop hating on his success. Be happy for him period! This is a done deal. Deal with it and let’s move on.
Lottie • Oct 9, 2024 at 12:46 pm
I’m from Louisiana born n raised . I think Kendrick is a perfect fit for the 2025 superbowl. I’m looking forward to seeing this Super Bowl halftime show with Kendrick Lamar . That’s the only reason I’ll be tuned in. I left football with the Kaepernick bullshit . So now I have something to look forward to. Kendrick performing .
Dude Da Def • Oct 9, 2024 at 9:50 am
There have been so many other artist that did the super bowl at that same stadium, and NOBODY said anything
Mont • Oct 9, 2024 at 9:42 am
Kendrick Lamar is relevant across the globe. I am in the south but you have to keep this on mind the super bowl audience is not just the south. Kendrick is the right choice. It would be cool if Lil Wayne participate but we will see if that will happen
Kelby Webster • Oct 9, 2024 at 7:36 am
They could have even did cash money(group) or even master p’s No limit (group). There are alot of people that come from the N.O. they could have brought out. There is even August Alsina. They should have did a tribute to New Orleans and the surrounding Louisiana cities Artist. I never really cared for jay z, but kendrick he’s alright but this one doesn’t sit well with me.
Ashley Nelson • Oct 9, 2024 at 7:32 am
Kendrick Lamar is recreating an entire Genre that has been plagued with substance abuse, over sexualization, and violence, Louisiana has 3 cities on the top homicides list, Louisiana absolutely NEEDS Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick music is inspiring to the youth that face this violence everyday, while the more popular white artists would be the way to go,I think Jay Z made a sacrifice for the kids of the culture, and I respect that. Ppl think that the beef was just about rap,it wasn’t!
Cherisse • Oct 9, 2024 at 6:32 am
I share one sentiment of this article and that is wait no I don’t. It’s foolish for many to feel as if Wayne deserved the SuperBowl spot especially considering his performances aren’t that great . Don’t get me wrong he has many classic anthems but the Halftime show is not his audience. If I want to look at 30 dudes on stage rapping along with someone I can go to a local festival. Kendrick embodies top tier when it comes to his performances and y’all know it. Since when does the HTS production team need to acquire local talent ? I mean I love Wayne too however Kendrick, imo is the best artist for the stage .
Cryptic • Oct 9, 2024 at 6:10 am
Lil Wayne is a bad performer now,he needs to worry about his health and not the super bowl,as a Lil Wayne fan I don’t want to see him embarrass himself
Bigdogg • Oct 9, 2024 at 6:01 am
Young boy is from baton rouge not new Orleans
Jamonte Thompson Sr • Oct 9, 2024 at 5:30 am
Superbowl Halftime shows have never been about local artist. And rap barely made into the spotlight of halftime shows. So instead of fighting with each other on who should perform embrace the one who’s been giving the chance.
Chandra • Oct 9, 2024 at 4:55 am
Nothing against Kendrick Lamar, but Lil Wayne should be the headliner for this Superbowl, Fasho 🙏🏽💯❤️😘
Real hip hop head • Oct 9, 2024 at 4:21 am
This is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read. Go back in history of halftime performers. Were any of them from the city that hosted the Superbowl that year. Now that Jay is on the committee that’s what supposed to happen. What’s wrong with you people?
InstigatorGH • Oct 9, 2024 at 3:39 am
What a stupid editorial. When has the super bowl ever been about headlining artists performing from their hometown?
Where was this energy when the Weeknd performed at the LV halftime show at Florida, Tampa? The Weeknd is Canadian but we didn’t see you say anything about it or advocate for Florida artists or rappers?. Where was this same energy when Rihanna performed at the LVII halftime show at Glendale, Arizona? Rihanna is from Barbados but you didn’t make any outburst or clamor for any Arizona rapper to be the headliner. Let me ask you for the 3rd time, where was this same energy when Shakira, who is from Colombia, performed with J. Lo at the LIV halftime show at Miami Gardens, Florida? Didn’t hear you complain about that one either.
In summary, your editorial is extremely bias & shows that you really don’t like Kendrick Lamar by playing the ‘hometown argument’ to further your own deceitful agenda. Have you watched Lil Wayne performances lately? Look at his performance at WrestleMania. Terrible. Also, Lil Wayne admitted forgetting his own lyrics whiles performing. Kendrick Lamar is a way better performer & his pop out set list shows that he has many hits & can definitely headline a Superbowl. I will not be surprised if you’re a Drake fan & wrote this editorial because Kendrick beat your favorite celebrity in a rap battle. This editorial reads ‘Say you hate Kendrick Lamar without saying you hate Kendrick Lamar”.
Mike Jones • Oct 9, 2024 at 2:58 am
Just shut the hell up!
Dani • Oct 9, 2024 at 2:33 am
I’d rather see Kendrick than any of the rappers you named
Kora • Oct 8, 2024 at 5:41 pm
Why don’t you keep your OPINION to YOURSELF?
No one freaked out when Prince didn’t play the 1/2 show at the Superbowl in Minnesota. Or every other artist who has never done 1/2 from their home state.
