President Barack Obama got to the point when he was mentioning immigration reform in his inaugural speech, and agreeably so, it should be one of the main agendas for the men and women.
However, this call for immigration reform is long overdue. Obama had made immigration reform a campaign promise when he was running in 2008, yet he failed to follow through on all of those promises.
Perhaps it was something he said just so he can get elected again in 2012 or perhaps he was actually being real this time with the American public.
Some Americans around the country would want a complete overhaul of the immigration policy now, and most of them would agree that they would want know instead of waiting for it to sit around for another year.
Yes, there is the issue of money being kind of short for the White House, as well as the problems with unemployment around the country.
However, this is something that could be greatly beneficial for the money woes of our country.
So it would only make sense to accomplish immigration reform for the potential money that can be had for the U.S.
One thing that can help with the economy is the DREAM Act. According to AmericanProgress.org, there are 2.1 million undocumented students who are estimated to earn $148 billion.
Imagine how much money in taxes the U.S. will get if the DREAM Act passes. This is what needs to be done to help the U.S. budget.
Specifically, this is what the president wanted to do with immigration this year. Some examples include better enforcement of current immigration laws, providing a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants already in the country, and reforming the immigration system.
It was a good thing that President Obama brought out the issue of immigration during his inaugural speech because now Americans will know that he is serious about his promise.
According to AmericanProgress.org, there was 39.9 million foreign-born people in the U.S. as of 2010. It is the duty of the leaders of this country to handle the immigration policy with high priority.
This country was built on the work of immigrants. They helped shaped what our country is today. So it is essential that we can get an immigration policy that will serve as a model that the rest of the world would look at.
We can’t just blame Obama for failure of immigration reform in 2013, we need to get to work and talk to our senators and representatives of our respective states so we can see reform happen.
