Following the team’s 68-59 loss to Santa Rosa, the Cerritos College women’s basketball team prepares for quite possibly their most toughest challenge of the season facing the Mt. SAC Mounties on Friday Dec. 7th at Hope International University.
Mt. SAC is on a winning streak this season with a 10-0 record after playing in the Tip-Off, Ventura, and Sequoias Tournaments. Cerritos College is currently sitting with a 4-4 record after competing at the San Diego, Santa Barbara and Sequoias Tournements.
Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Trisha Raniewicz said regarding Mt. SAC and the Mounties’ current success, “It doesn’t matter what the other team’s record is or your record, but if you have a game plan and come out sticking to your game plan and playing together as a team then anything can happen. And that’s what we hope to accomplish tomorrow. We are not backing down that’s for sure.”
Raniewicz believes that playing in the same tournament as the Mounties helped Cerritos with their game plan for tomorrow’s game, “They (Mt. SAC athletics) were at the Sequoias Tournament with us and since it’s a four day tournament, we studied them and know what we have to do so we can go out and compete and come out with a victory.”
Falcons starters Nia Lateju and Deenesha Bee are currently out with injuries from the starting lineup for tomorrow’s game.
“They are out right now and I don’t know what their current status is.” said Raniewicz.
Raniewicz believes in the Falcons bench to step up against Mt. Sac despite the lack of their two starters,”In practice the girls have seen what they can do. The bench believes in themselves and each other and have each other’s backs. So whoever the Head Coach (Karen Welliver) chooses to play, they will play their hearts out I have no doubt about that.”
The Falcons are scheduled next to play Long Beach City College at Irvine City College on Friday Dec. 14th.
