Five out of the seven seats for the Cerritos College Board of Trustees will be up for grabs in the Nov. 6 election. The deadline for candidate filing was Aug. 10 for candidates to register with the Los Angeles County Registrar/Recorder’s Office.
The board will now be split into seven “trustee areas” spread throughout the district.
The five open seats are the seats for Trustee Area No. 1, Trustee Area No. 2, Trustee Area No. 3, Trustee Area No. 4, and Trustee Area No. 6.
Trustee Area No. 1 will consist of the city of Bell Gardens and parts of Downey and Norwalk.
Running for the seat in Area No. 1 is incumbent Robert “Bob” Arthur and business owner Leonard Zuniga. Arthur has previously served as the Board of Trustees president.
The cities represented in Trustee Area No. 2 is the of South Gate and parts of Bellflower, Downey, and Norwalk.
The candidates for Trustee Area No. 2 are Teacher/City Clerk Carmen Avalos and incumbent Tom Jackson.
Trustee Area No. 3 will contain parts of Bellflower, Cerritos, and Downey.
The candidates for Trustee Area No. 3 are educator John Paul Drayer and incumbent Jean M. Mc Hatton.
Hawaiian Gardens and parts of Long Beach, Cerritos, Bellflower, and Lakewood will be the cities in Trustee Area No. 4.
Incumbent Ted Edmiston, and Public Policy Advisor Marisa K. Perez, are running the Trustee Area No. 4 seat.
La Marida and parts of Cerritos, Norwalk, and Santa Fe Springs are the cities represented in Trustee Area No. 6.
Running for Trustee Area No. 6 is Clinical Dr. Sandra Salazar and incumbent Dr. Tina Cho.
Areas with seats not up for election are Trustee Area No. 5 which includes parts of the cities of Artesia, Cerritos, Lakewood and Santa Fe Springs and Area No. 7 which covers La Mirada, and parts of the cities of Artesia, Norwalk, and Santa Fe Springs.
