Freshmen Forward Angel Ayala led the Cerritos College men’s soccer team in goals in a 5-0 South Coast Conference game against El Camino College, helping the team continue its five-game winning streak on Friday.
“I haven’t scored in a while so the goals I scored today were really good for me. I feel really pumped and I’m ready for our next game,” Ayala said.
The beginning of first half, both teams were started off by getting a few off sides.
Cerritos College Head Coach Benny Artiaga said he’d rather have the team commit off side penalties than make mistakes.
“Offsides are just a characteristic of a team playing aggressive. If the team got a lot of off sides, I wouldn’t change a thing. If we get 20 offsides, that would mean we easily could have got a goal, so this would be the last thing I would change.”
Sophomore goalkeeper Danny Lizama earned a shut out, his sixth of the season.
During the second half, the Falcons would go on to score two more goals, with Ayala scoring his third of the game, and freshmen midfielder Daniel Castro getting the second.
“I’m really happy that we got the shut out this game. I’m happy that the team was able to play effectively. I didn’t see one time (Lizama) had a close call and couldn’t make a stop. I know the playoff teams will know how to close games, and score, but shutouts are a characteristic that we are trying to build.” Artiaga said.
The Falcons will play their last home game of the season on Tuesday against Long Beach City College.
“(The three goals) has me ready for the next game. No matter who’ll be playing, the Falcons are ready for the win” Ayala said.
