Sophomore setter Guadalupe Garcia had 21 kills to help the Cerritos College Volleyball team beat Los Angeles Harbor in sets of 25-19, 26-24, and 25-19 on Friday at Los Angeles Harbor.
Garcia leads the team in kills with 134 so far this season.
The win helped improve the Falcons’ record to 6-9 (3-4 in South Coast Conference).
Cerritos College volleyball head coach Teresa Velazquez-Ortega commented on Garcia’s performance.
“She can set, she can hit, she can play any position, she’s one of our key players.”
Velazquez-Ortega also said that she moves Garcia around, which is why she had so many kills.
Velazquez-Ortega talked about the team’s overall performance for this game and this season.
“I feel [that] we [are] getting better in every game (we play),” she said.
Freshman middle blocker Andrea Garrett talked about the team’s victory.
“We worked better as a team, and we were very supported of each other, so I think we’ve come a long way,” she said.
Garrett had four kills during the game.
She also said, “We had our ups and downs, but it wasn’t anything that we couldn’t get over. We got the job done and we won.”
Sophomore outside hitter Aundrea Stovall said, “I actually feel good, I think that we’re slowly coming together as a team.
“I think we played more as a team than individually, so I feel great about our win.”
The Falcons will look to improve its record to 7-9 as they play East Los Angeles College on Wednesday at Gahr High School.
