Child Development Club celebrated ‘A week of a young child’ event on Tuesday. They do this event every year to celebrate children, families, students, and teachers.
The event is for students to bring out their inner child and have fun like a child again. It also has activities for anyone on campus to do. Such as play-doh, white paper to draw on, hula-hoops, and they can make bubbles with a bubble maker.
Martha O. Mesa, a special Ed in child development major, “it was a surprise to see Mrs. Susan with all the girls doing this event. I always like to participate in the (clubs) events, especially when it relates with children. It’s a great joy to be part of the family of Cerritos College.”
Tiffany Burwell one of the members of the club was selling books that range from 50 cents to eight dollars. Books like Goosebumps by R.L. Stine and Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey were being sold at this event.
One of the students Andre Montesinos, a computer programming major, who participated in this event liked being a child. He said, “I had a lot of fun, because I played with play-doh, I drew a happy face, I did the hula-hoops, and I forgot the maracas but I’ll do that right now. I felt like I was six years old again.”
Brianne Peurrung, vice president of the child development club said, “We have this neat event every year, we have this for the students and their families to get involved with children in need of a family or a big brother.”
President of the club Samantha Carey said, “I felt like a kid again today because of all the fun I had.”
