The Cerritos College Music Club hosted a classical guitar concert that displayed different styles of classical guitar playing the students have learned on Friday.
Cindy Hernandez, music major, hosted a fundraiser which featured an evening of classical guitar music at 6 pm on Friday. Pamphlets with additional information about Neurofibromas (noor-oh-fahy-broh-muh,), were being handed out to read for the intermission of the event.
Paul Garcia, who played guitar in the event, had a great performance with a selection entitled Romance, ‘artist anonymous (change later).’
Overall, he left a good impression on the crowd.
Jose Jimenez, a music major at ELAC, said, “Wow, I was amazed how great they are. Too bad there’s no classes in the summer here at Cerritos. I would of love to learn here.”
Garcia liked the performance of the other artists as well at this fundraiser. “I liked how we changed our dynamics on this one,” he siad.
The people were happy they had the privilege to hear these songs being played by these students.
Another student who played for the benefit of a cure for this disease (NF), Carlos Bolivar said, “This concert was a great way to raise funds for the Neurofibromas, and that’s what we do. We build communities through music, and ‘Building Unity Through Music’ is the music clubs’ theme.
Cesar Jaramillo had a set by the artist of Heitor Villa-Lobos, a Brazilian composer from 1905-1959. “Not many people understand, said Jaramillo, “how much time it takes to prepare for the classical guitar.
He then added, “we had a brief amount of time to put on a whole concert, but thanks to the performers and everyone who came out and supported. We were able to get a good concert.”
Josue Orozco said, “It went well. I can say I’ve been in the club a long time and it was a good outcome. He added, it was for a good cause to do this concert.”
Hernandez said, “for Friday’s concert we only made 30 dollars in donations, but come Thursday’s meeting at 11 a.m. room BC53, I will be asking the music club to match or donate some money for this cause.”
