The ASCC received praise for organizing Homecoming week (Oct. 9 through Oct. 14) during the Board of Trustees meeting last Wednesday. Also, Amna Jara, automotive technology programmer facilitator, was the Classified Employee of the Month for September 2006.
In addition, ASCC President Joe Cobarrubio said that the “Show Pride in Your Campus” campaign had drawn student interest and hoped that it would be a success and that there is hope that the event will be continued in future semesters.
Among the board members who were in attendance for the Homecoming game were Bob Hughlett, Carmen Avalos, and Board Secretary Bob Arthur.
For Avalos, one of the things that stood out to her was the floats built by student clubs.
“I thought that the floats were impressive,” she commented, “but especially the float by the Dental Hygiene Club in which they featured, ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean.'”
The Dental Hygiene Club won the Amy Dozier award for best overall float at the Homecoming Luncheon.
Stephen Johnson, vice president of student services, said that he too thought Homecoming was a success and that he appreciated being a part of the celebration.
Cobarrubio said that credit needed to be given to those who were on the Homecoming Committee.
“Those who were helping out made it a great success,” he said. He added that he was glad to see that those on the Board were able to attend and hoped they all had fun.
During the “Show Pride in Your Campus” event, Cobarrubio said that there have been quite a number of students that were concerned with the appearance of the campus.
He, along with ASCC Vice President Alex Armendariz and members from the ASCC Court helped clean up the area restroom of the Student Center and the Social Sciences Building.
As for the supplies that were needed to move the event along, Cobarrubio said there was a $5 donation and that showed even further that students cared and supported the efforts of the ASCC.
