It’s Round 2 with the Academic Support Center. This time it is the question of how accessible is the place to disabled students.
The first time around I questioned why the ASC didn’t have tutors who were available to help students out with their class and like I said every class from A to Z.
It is obvious that those who work there don’t care as much to do something about it. And that’s why I’m after them again.
Having the title of Academic Support Center really hasn’t been upheld. And in this case I mean the word ‘Academic’ itself.
First of all, something needs to be done in order for the ASC to help those who are disabled and that includes people who are in wheelchairs, deaf, blind.
Apparently that has not happened for a long time and as a college student that is unacceptable.
You should be ashamed not to think that there should be responsibility toward those students who are among more than 20,000 other Cerritos students who attend this college.
Remember when the ASC was crowded enough that there wasn’t a seat available for those who wanted help?
Have you asked yourself why the area in which, you have the ASC now looks like a ghost town.
Because for the simple fact that the title you hold is deceiving. Plain and Simple. You say that you support everyone who is there so, my question is why it is that disabled students are being turned away for help.
I don’t understand this at all.
To solve the problem of finding tutors, there is something that you can do about it. How about sending postcards asking continuing students if they are interested in helping those who are struggling in a particular class?
Is that easy enough or do I have to treat you like a five-year-old?
Hence that leads me to again ask you, what to do you plan to do about helping the disabled?
There was a former director of the ASC who would go out of their way to help those disabled students regardless of the situation.
That in turn included finding a tutor who was there to help anyone and I mean anyone who was looking to succeed.
I suggest going back to that method because if you don’t, what is the use of having that title and I’m being honest when I ask that.
The ASC used to be full of students and now it’s not and I’m sure you ask why. The simple truth is because of what you don’t do.
Therefore, do something as simple as lending out a hand to help or you might as well be given your pink slip.
