The Cerritos College Student Activities began holding a canned food drive Tuesday to help out needy families in the surrounding communities during the holiday season.
Cerritos has been involved in helping those less fortunate with the help from the Norwalk Community Coordinating Council.
For Cerritos College’s continued involvement in the food drive the college has received award recognition from the Community Coordinating Council.
Dean Ackland, coordinator of student activities, said, “The students who donate feel good about helping out.”
Paulo Amaral, ASCC president agrees.
“If a student donates one can it can add up to over 20,000 cans from every student.”
The clubs that signed are generally between 20-25, Amaral added.
Ackland encourages students to donate and “go through the cupboards because it doesn’t matter if the canned foods are six months old.”
The clubs that have the most donated cans will receive an award, and knowing that it is the “little bit that helps,” Amaral said.
The food drive will continue through Dec. 9.
