Three short horror films were screened last Wednesday night by the Theater department during the Cerritos College film meeting.
“Cane Man,” “Never Alone,” and “Midnight Gamez” were judged by 7 members.
The film “Cane Man” was about finding out who murdered a girl with a cane.
It was produced by Rosanna Sok.
“The shooting for this film lasted 16 hours,” Ricardo Ramirez, film major, said, “and the reason why is because our group had trouble memorizing (its) lines.”
He added that all of the actors in the film were friends and that some in the group of seven had more experience than others.
The second film, “Never Alone,” dealt with the murder of students who teased another student.
It was shot in one day by Daniela Moreno, mass communication/philosophy major, said.
The third and final movie was an untitled film that also dealt with suspense and murder.
After each screening the judges totaled up the scores of the three films to award the Best Horror Film of 2005.
The winner of the award went to “Never Alone” produced by Joseph Perez, film major.
Film Club president Sheilah Brooks presented the award.
“This is awesome,” Evelyn Vasquez, radio/TV/film major said.
Having the idea of the group come together and thinking ahead is what helped the project, she added.
Moreno agreed.
“For this project it was a burst of creativity,” she said.
She added that she knew that the group’s film was going to win because “you have to feel confident in your work.”
