Madonna fans everywhere rejoice!
The first single “Hung Up” off her upcoming album, “Confessions on a Dancefloor” (Nov. 15) is a catchy tune thanks in large part to a sample of ABBA’s “Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)”.
After her last album “American Life” (2003) struggled to sale only 500,000 copies in the U.S. “Hung Up” doesn’t disappoint.
I honestly thought that ABBA was singing this song instead of Madonna, but when I look to see who wrote it I realized it was the Queen of Pop.
Written and produced by Stuart Price (aka Jacques Ju Cont) and Madonna what I love about the track is how Madonna managed to bring the disco era into the 21st century.
Not many artists can’t get away with what she has done with this song.
Price, who follows the footsteps of William Orbit (“Ray of Light”) and Mirwais Ahmadzai (“Music” and “American Life”) does a great job of bringing out the synthesizers, and keyboard emphasis throughout the song.
I love the beginning, “Time goes by so slowly/Time goes by so slowly/Time goes by so slowly for those who wait.”
The climax came after and I was dancing as if there was a disco ball in the room.
I thought the album “Ray of Light” was a revelation for Madonna but if the song sounds this good than I will be first in line to buy the album.
Madonna, who in 1983, skyrocketed to fame with dance music when she released the song, “Everybody” returns to the music that has made her the most famous woman on the planet.
ABBA should also be happy to hear that Madonna pays tribute to them and those who love Madonna (as much as I do!) will no doubt be asking for more.
