The Writer’s Anonymous club is currently accepting submissions for its magazine called “Untitled” due out on Apr. 26.
Writer’s Anonymous co-presidents Mario San Juan and Jeanine Rodriguez said that it will be a great opportunity for students who are shy to express themselves through writing.
Among the written material that can be submitted are:
? Poetry? Short stories? Novels? Lyrics? Screenplays
For those who submit novels and screenplays, San Juan said that the amount of length is up to two pages long. The deadline for submission is tentatively scheduled for Apr. 12.
Students, however, had mixed reactions to the magazine. Danny Anadar, undecided major, said that he wasn’t sure whether he’d submit anything. “Maybe I will submit something later,” he commented, “but I don’t know.”
Adrian Guerrero, undecided major, also said that he wouldn’t consider submitting anything to a magazine as well. “I would be comfortable with it,” he said, “because I play the guitar and whatever I write would have to be set to music instead.”
Nevertheless, San Juan said that the main reason for having the magazine this semester is “for students to have the opportunity for intellectual growth as well as having something that they have written published.”
The idea to have a magazine was Rodriguez’s idea according to San Juan. Currently, the club has received more than 10 submissions through its MySpace website and both Rodriguez and San Juan say that it’s great.
In hearing that the club is looking for submissions, Jennifer Bollida, psychology major, said that she thought it was great that a club would be looking for poetry and are going to have a magazine.
“I wrote a lot when I was attending Paramount High School, and what the Writer’s Anonymous club is doing seems like a cool idea.”
She added that she would consider submitting material for the magazine. Rodriguez said that those who have not thought about submitting poetry or any writing should.
“It would be a great opportunity for those write to get some exposure.” In addition, she said that the material that would be published could eventually lead to a career as a writer.
Material can be submitted by E-mail at Cerritos_wa@yahoo.com or for more information visit: www.myspace.com/writersan. The club meets every Thursday at 11 a.m. in Room LA 33.
