The Writer’s Anonymous Club will be releasing its first “Untitled” magazine sometime next week.
However, students and faculty will have the opportunity to get a first listen to what’s in the magazine with a “Poetry Reading” to be held in the Teleconference Center this Thursday.
The English department is helping with the publication and distribution of the magazine.
Among the written material that will be reading to the event will be:
? Poetry? Short stories? Novels? Lyrics? Screenplays
Jeanine Rodriguez, Co-President of the Writer’s Anonymous said that she is extremely excited about the magazine coming out and nervous as well.
“It will be the first time that the club will be given the opportunity to read its own work.”
Rodriguez, along with Mario San Juan, English major, and President of the Writer’s Anonymous said that both have gone to as many classes as possible letting students know about the “Poetry Reading” event.
As for the magazine itself, San Juan said that, “So, 75% of the magazine is poetry, but there are also articles and short stories. Also, the magazine is bilingual. This means that there are some pieces in Spanish. We tried to get other languages included, but nobody turned in anything in another language that wasn’t Spanish.”
In addition, he explained, “I want more students to feel free to share what they’ve written without the fear of being criticized, so I hope this magazine motivates students to venture into doing something they didn’t think they’d ever do.”
You can do it! We never thought we’d actually get this magazine through,” he commented, “but it happened!”
When the club was accepting submission for its magazine Rodriguez said that there was going to be a benefit to those students who had their work published.
“It would be a great opportunity for those write to get some exposure,” she said, “and that would be published could eventually lead to a career as a writer.
