Midfielder Nadia Garcia scored the first goal in overtime to lead the Cerritos College women’s soccer team to the semi-finals of the state championship with its 3-0 victory over Mt. SAC.
“I was able to get that first goal of the game and pump up my teammates,” she said. “That broke the game open and we were able to dominate after that.”
Regulation ended in a 0-0 tie and the both teams were not able to get many scoring chances.
In the overtime, after the Falcons lost their leading scorer Monique Cisneros with a shoulder injury after she pulled down by a Mounties’ defender, they went on to score three unanswered goals to secure the victory and their place in the semi-finals.
They will face Modesto in at 7 p.m. on Saturday against Modesto at College of the Canyons.
Modesto went 20-4-3 and beat Cosumnes River College in the third round.
