The Cerritos Baseball Team has experienced recent success in its last four games, staying in the playoff hunt and keeping in arms length of first play in conference play.
Defensive intensity and hot bats have been the main ingredients in the Falcons past week victories.
With convincing wins over Oxnard, Pasadena City twice, and El Camino over the four-game stretch, Cerritos goes to 13-7 in conference play and are only one game behind Long Beach City for first place.
The Falcons will play LBCC Saturday in the cross town rivalry game and will try and take that first place bid in the process.
With only four ball games remaining, Cerritos will need to make a strong finish entering in to the playoffs and have confidence and motivation to do so after their strong last week.
In their 20-8 win over Oxnard, the Falcons managed to record 24 hits in the game, getting strong contributions from outfielder Jake Mayoral, who had six hits, as well as a Falcon record tying six RBI from third baseman Steve Hernandez.
Cerritos got out to a very hot start against El Camino, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings.
It went on to win that game, 14-7, countering every attempt El Camino made at a comeback.
Cerritos did the same against Pasadena City both times it played this past week winning 16-8 on the April 16 and 15-9 on the April 18.
Joe Terry in particular has been on fire in his at bat attempts, getting 13 RBI in the Falcons’ last four games.
He is currently in the process of shattering the Falcon season record of 13 triples, as he has 12 now.
“Our team is young and inexperienced but we will make progression as the season does,” stated coach Jack Brooks, and they have done just that and hope to make a strong push into the playoffs.
