Former Cerritos College and Texas Christian University football player, Lou Porch will be replacing Rich Ruiz as running back coach for next season.
Porch has recently made the transition from Mayfair High school and has started working with the returning running backs this spring.
“The transition has been great so far. The terminology is a bit different, but I played in this offense here at Cerritos College, so it has been smooth.”
The team has lost a tight end coach along with last year’s running back coach Ruiz.
Mazzotta says the reason why his former players come back to coach is because of loyalty to him, the team and the school.
He has coached 34 years at Cerritos College and adds that the stable environment not only helps the coaches, but keeps the athletes coming.
“Coaching is all about loyalty,” Mazzotta said. “He [Porch] coached for ten years. Started by playing for me then going to play at TCU. He is a mature coach and knows what is going on in our offense.”
Mazzotta has said that the team’s strongest asset was running the ball and that puts the importance of working out this spring on the players and effectiveness of the coaches.
One running back that has returned for the spring this year is,……………..
“………………………………” he said.
Porch and the rest of the coaching staff and players have used the speed training and weight trainning throughout the spring and will continue to do so during the Summer.
