Story of the Year recently released its newest album “The Black Swan on April 21, 2008.
The new album has been a hit among its fans. This is also the first album from their new record label “Epitaph”.
The album hit No.18 on Billboard 200 chart, and sold about 21,000 copies in its first week. It also appeared on the UK rock charts at No. 6.
It was named after the book by Nassim Nicholas Tale, “The Black Swan: Impact of the Highly Improbable”. Which is about random, and uncertainty as a whole idea.
The band has kept all its original members.
The themes in a majority of the songs in the album are of the meanings of why we live, anti-war, meaningless fights, and killing.
Other themes of the songs are political, and social meanings.
Compared to their first two albums this is a new sound for them. Page Avenue was an acoustic sound, and “In the Wake of Determination” has a metalcore sound to it, but “The Black Swan” has the sound that makes it gnarly.
Some songs had good beginning riffs, and some good solos. Such as “Wake Up”, and “Tell Me”. But other songs like “Angel in the Swamp” wasn’t as good as the others.
