Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance President, Kassandra Sandoval, along with fellow Cerritos College student, Matt Hamilton of the Literature club, took the time on Thursday, to discuss the importance of educating people about feminism.

Put together by Sandoval and Hamilton themselves, they set up the plan accordingly for students to attend. On the day of the presentation there was full capacity within the classroom and students participated on questions and thoughts of women rights.

“People just brush the idea that feminism is under the rug because they think its outdated and not relevant anymore.” Sandoval explained. “I wanted to put it out there that it’s still relevant and there still terrible things going on globally and not only in the United States.”

Coming from a different background of perspective, Hamilton wanted to discuss about the main points on what he said were “the lack of empathy, understand and education” which complies with the issues of women rights.

“I wanted to get the word out and let the guys and girls know that part of the reason why we have a problem is because people aren’t listening and trying to understand it.” Hamilton said.

Throughout the presentation the topics were raised about the problems that women face with violent practices, such as female genital mutilation, in other countries.

These discriminations against human rights is what brought up the main topic of how feminism is stereotyped through the media and how educating about the modern importance of equal rights need to be taught to people.

Evelyn Pandura, Aerchautical engineer major attended the lecture and shared her thoughts on the certain areas to why women put themselves behind the male figure in their lives.

“The woman always puts the man first, before herself. A lot of females don’t speak up and value themselves, which is why men treat them they way they do.”

She went on to say about how women aren’t educated enough, but can also be brought up with the mind-set that men are more superior than them.

Much to what Pandura expressed, the powerpoint related to her concept of how women degrade themselves with men, but also through fashion and media.

Toward the end of the display of the lecture, questions were asked to the students in the class to reflect and ask oneself on what ways are there to progress on contributions to fundamental human rights.
