ASCC Presidential Applications will be available starting on Feb. 27 for those students interested in running for president.
Dean Ackland, coordinator of student activities said that students who are looking to run are the ones who are “willing to represent the students as well as Cerritos College.”
However, he stressed that being ASCC President means that any potential candidate needs to have time.
“(Being ASCC President) is very demanding,” Ackland added, “and also a great learning experience for him or her.”
Furthermore, candidates will have to attend various meetings with the Board of Trustees and student activities’ functions as well, he added.
Current ASCC President Paulo Amaral, said that there are things that those who are potential candidates should know about being ASCC President.
“Those (students) who are interested should know that they are willing to learn from mistakes,” and he continued, “and are willing to ask questions.”
He added that it has been a great honor to serve as the student body president which, has taught him a great deal about Cerritos College, and how student government works.
Ackland agreed that students who have served as ASCC President in the past, like Amaral and John Franco, have bloomed in their position.
“I have seen it will the average student.”
The deadline to turn in the presidential applications is Mar. 17.
