Expectations will be high for the Cerritos College softball team as they enter the 2009 season with a state championship title to defend.
The Falcons were crowned 2008 state champions for the second time in Cerritos College softball history after defeating Mt. SAC, 5-1, in the final.
The Falcons will have only three returning players from last year’s championship team including starting centerfielder, Jennifer Salas.
This year, the Falcons will rely on a promising core of incoming freshmen, which includes Catcher Samantha Vaaulu and Pitcher Lauren Castrellon.
‘’We have a very talented group of freshmen” said head coach Kodee Murray.
‘’I think it is going to be a journey and I know they will make mistakes this season because they are freshmen,” Murray added.
With a state title to defend, Murray believes it brings more excitement to the dugout.
‘’I don’t think there is any pressure, (the team) wants to make a name for (itself) this year.”
