Eminem is back to what he does best – music!
Known as the bad boy of rap, in his new song, “When I’m Gone,” from the upcoming CD, Curtain Call (Dec. 6), Eminem sings about his daughter Hailey.
Eminem is considered one of the most prolific rappers since Tupac Shakur, which is a testament to when he released, Encore (2004).
The song itself is about the continuing struggles of getting along with his ex-wife Kim, but more importantly about keeping the promise to his daughter that he would not leave her behind.
As the song begins, Eminem is a man torn between having a relationship with his daughter and being civil to his wife.
Eminem raps with emotion when he raps about his daughter.
He has before.
“Have you ever loved someone so much/you give an arm for?/not the expression but literately an arm for,” begins the song because he is talking about loving someone so much that you would risk anything.
I thought, “Wow, what a song!”
I would hope that if he knew the kind of talent that he has, Eminem would not consider “retiring” from the music that made him famous.
There has been a lot of talk about Eminem retiring and he has said that the only thing that he is focused on is producing other people’s music.
With new material as in “When I’m Gone” Eminem shines in the one area he has since he began in 1997 – songwriting.
The chorus of the song, “When I’m gone/just carry on/don’t mourn, rejoice” tells me that he hopes that his music will live on.
His music will live on and I would hope that he continues to write and make music; it’s his strongest asset.
