The Cerritos College art gallery held a reception of “Over/Flow” on Sept. 15 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. introducing students and faculty to the art pieces it had to offer.
The art was based on current world issues such as environment conditions, economic issues and social status. That is why “horror vacui,” which literally means “fear of emptiness,” works perfectly as the gallery’s byline.
Chris Jordan, Kael Greco and Jason Salavon are just a few of the artists that had the opportunity to have their artistic talents displayed.
Spectators enjoyed the marvelous creations that were displayed in the gallery.
“I like the creativity of it, and the combination of different medias,” commented Rachel Calderon Navarro, arts major, about James Enos’ piece.
Enos’ piece is a 3-D module of different “physical pathways.”
Galileo Gonzales, computer animation major, said, “I enjoyed (‘Extra lives’) because I am a huge game fan.”
Kael Greco’s “Extra Lives” piece was of hacking classic video games. Characters were multiplied to uncountable numbers where they shouldn’t be.
“You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth #2,” was a featured art piece that caught the visitors’ attention.
The piece was filled with vibrant colors and clippings of movies, people, celebrities, animals and other things.
It took more than one look to spy every tiny detail. It was like a “Where’s Waldo” game.
Other artists featured were:
- Roni Feldman,
- Alexandra Grant,
- Matthew Green,
- Aiko Hachisuka,
- Simmons & Burke and
- Jody Zellen.
The art gallery is open Mondays through Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
“Over/Flow” will be featured until Nov. 5.
Admission is free.
