Books bind by the spine; they can also bind relationships together.
Stephanie Tapia, a member of the Library Club, participated in activities put by the club, which included a book sale.
“Actually, we’re getting along as friends, more than a club,” Tapia said.
The club held a two-day book sale near front of the north entrance of the Learning Resource Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sep. 20 and 21.
Children’s books were sold for 50 cents, while other books, including textbooks, cost anywhere from $1-3.
Iliana Ochoa, the event coordinator for the Library Club, said, “We were actually selling math books, there were Pre-Algebra books, History books…
“Any kind of books [and] stories. You name it.”
All the books sold were donated and next semester the club plans to hold another book sale early in the semester.
Enrique Siliezar, president of the Library Club, said that the book sale went really well.
“Last semester we did the exact same thing and we had enough money to basically take our group to Big Bear.
“We actually made more money this semester, so you know we have more members now. I guess the word is spreading so now we’re looking to do something a little bit bigger,” he said.
Siliezar added that the club has a poetry event coming up open to student poets, that will take place on campus.
The club also plans to participate in the 26th annual AIDS walk in Los Angeles on Oct. 17 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. at West Hollywood Park.
The walk itself is set to cover about six miles over four checkpoints, and the Library club will be collecting donations as a team for those with HIV/AIDS who desperately need basic necessities such as food, dental care and housing.
The club usually meets every other Thursday, twice a month, and will be meeting again Sep. 30 at 11 a.m. in LC 133.
